Over the past year, The University of Kansas Hospital has continued to deliver world-class care to all patients, many with complex conditions. This is our mission, and we work to fulfill it each day – continually raising the bar on the quality of care and discovering options where once there were none.

As we fulfill our mission, we are also fixed on our vision for tomorrow: To lead the nation in caring, healing, teaching and discovering.

As the region's premier academic medical center, our work continues to earn national recognition:

  • University HealthSystem Consortium consistently ranks us among the nation's top academic medical centers, based on a comprehensive set of performance measures.

  • We earned and continue to hold Magnet designation for nursing excellence.

  • We celebrated The University of Kansas Cancer Center's recognition as a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center.

  • Since 2007, we have been ranked among the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals.

While we are honored to receive these designations, we remain committed to working to fulfill our vision: To lead the nation in caring, healing, teaching and discovering.

To accomplish this, we must grow – not to become the biggest, but to best serve those who most need the level of care we provide. With our hospital often operating at or near capacity, an increasing number of patients with serious conditions must wait before they can receive the specialized care they need.

  • Expansion at our main hospital campus centers on the construction of Cambridge North Tower. The 124-bed expansion will allow us to help more of the patients who require the type of complex care only an academic medical center can deliver.

  • We plan to expand inpatient care at our Indian Creek campus in Overland Park, Kansas.

  • We continue to add outpatient specialty clinics across the metropolitan area.

  • To serve the well-being of all Kansans, we partner with care providers across the state to improve care for people affected by stroke, heart attack, heart failure and sepsis.

As a not-for-profit hospital, we strategically reinvest our revenue in facilities, technology and other resources to continue providing world-class care. We receive no state or local funding, so our growth relies on sound fiscal management and private philanthropy. Expanding our facilities and realizing our vision will be possible only through generous support from our community.

Our annual report highlights the ways in which we put the power of academic medicine to work for our patients. For copies, call 913-588-1227 or 800-332-6048.
