BLS Healthcare Provider Initial Provider & Reaffirmation

Course description

This is an instructor-led/video driven class. Successful completion requires active participation in the class, passing Adult CPR and Infant CPR Skills Testing and passing the written test with a minimum of 84%.

Location

This class is held in the Westwood Multipurpose Room.

Course times

  • 8:30-12 p.m. for morning classes.
  • 12:30-4 p.m. for afternoon classes.

Preparation

To be admitted to the course you must have:

  • A BLS manual.

Study strategy prior to the course:

  • Read the BLS manual.

Study strategy after the course:

  • Review course material periodically.
  • Participate in mock codes on your unit.

Continuing Education for Registered Nurses

Basic Life Support (Healthcare Provider) – 3 hours

The University of Kansas Health System Education and Development is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

BLS Heartcode Online

Course description

This is an online program with skills testing for BLS. You will be given an access key to BLS Heartcode Online. There is an instructor-led validation for BLS. Successful completion requires completion of BLS Heartcode Online, active participation in the skills validation and passing Adult and Infant CPR Skills Testing.

Location

The afternoon classes are held in the Westwood Multipurpose Room, the evening classes are held in 2043 Wescoe.

Course times

Afternoon courses:

  • 2 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m.
  • 3 p.m.
  • 3:30 p.m.

Evening courses:

  • 5 p.m.
  • 5:30 p.m.
  • 6 p.m.
  • 6:30 p.m.
  • 7 p.m.
  • 7:45 p.m.

Large groups may take up to 45 minutes to complete all testing.

Online program

Please allow time to finish the program. BLS takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Do not first access the program on a weekend as the AHA Help Desk is closed.

  • Contact Education and Development if you do not receive keys within two weeks of the class or 3 days prior to the class.

BLS Heartsaver

Course description

This is an instructor-led/video driven class for non-licensed, non-clinical staff; transporters; and lay rescuers. The agenda is Adult CPR, Adult Choking, Child CPR, Child Choking, Infant CPR and Infant Choking. There will be skills practice with each segment. There is no written test. Successful completion requires active participation in the class and skills practice.

Location

This class is held in the Westwood Multipurpose Room.

Course times

  • 8:30-11:30 a.m. for morning classes
  • 12:30-3:30 p.m. for afternoon classes

This course is offered every other month on the odd months.

Study strategy after the course:

  • Review the course materials periodically.
