Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Note: NRP requires completion of the NRP Online Examination, 6th Edition within 30 days of an instructor-led class.

Course description

This is an instructor-led class. Successful completion requires active participation in the class, passing Infant PPV/CPR, Special Considerations Station, Umbilical Vessel Station, Intubation Station, Integrated Station and Simulation Station.

Location

This class is held in the Westwood Multipurpose Room.

Course times

  • 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Preparation

To be admitted to the course you must have:

  • A NRP manual.
  • Printed form from the NRP Online Examination, 6th Edition within 30 days of the instructor-led class. All 9 sections of the exam are required. Note: The printed form is required.

Your options if you don't pass the exam twice are:

  • If you are an RN and it is after regular business hour (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Mon.-Fri.) you have the option to purchase the test to complete as you deem appropriate.
  • Or you can notify your Unit Educator and Janet Wisner so your test can be reassigned.
  • If you are a physician or respiratory therapist, you will be responsible for purchasing your own test to complete.

Study strategy prior to the course:

  • Complete all of the admission requirements.
  • Read the NRP manual.
  • Know the standards for Infant PPV/CPR, Special Considerations Station, Umbilical Vessel Station, Intubation Station, Integrated Station and Simulation Station.

Study strategy after the course:

  • Review course material periodically.
  • Participate in mock codes on your unit.

Continuing Education for Registered Nurses
