NEW: Walk-in After-Hours Care for Sports Injuries in Overland Park

Published: 09/28/2017

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The University of Kansas Health System's Sports Medicine and Performance Center just made it easier to get your aches and pains checked out in Overland Park. The center is now open from 5-10 p.m. Friday evenings and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays.

Orthopedic care is now available when – and where – you need it.

"We're extending our hours to make exceptional orthopedic care even more convenient for high school athletes and weekend warriors in Johnson County," said Charles Rozanski, vice president of orthopedics and sports medicine.

Rozanski points out that the new hours are not just for kids and sports enthusiasts. The clinic also serves busy professionals who can't find time for a weekday appointment. He explained, "We're working overtime so our patients don't have to miss a single hour of work."

At the Sports Medicine and Performance Center, Friday night and Saturday patients will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis. There's no appointment or referral needed. A sports medicine specialist will evaluate, diagnose and treat most injuries. If needed, a follow-up appointment can be scheduled with the appropriate physician or therapist.

"We expect to see typical problems like sprains, strains, joint injuries and bone fractures," Rozanski said. "We suggest you visit one of our other locations during regular business hours or the emergency department in cases of lacerations, open fractures, chronic pain, wound care, cast problems, or back or neck issues. Medication refills also won't occur during these extended hours."
