KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The University of Kansas Health System is partnering with Hallmark Cards Inc. to open a Hallmark Gold Crown Store in the lobby of the main hospital.

The new Hallmark Gold Crown Store will be owned and operated by Hallmark and will be the Kansas City-based corporation's first Gold Crown Store in a hospital or health system in the nation.

The 1,213-square-foot store will open its doors for the first time at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. It will offer traditional hospital gift shop items such as grooming products, snacks and magazines as well as more than 500 greeting cards, Hallmark gift wrap and other items including Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments. There will also be a curated collection of gifts from Vera Bradley, Willow Tree and local vendors such as Made in KC, Something Sweet and Teefey Flowers.

The Hallmark Gold Crown Store hours:

  • 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
  • 7 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Thursday
  • 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Noon-5:30 p.m. Sunday

"Our mission is to lead the country in healthcare, and Hallmark is known as the very best in multiple businesses – it's a natural partnership," said Bob Page, the health system's president and CEO. "Both organizations have a strong commitment to moving the Kansas City area forward. We hope this is the start of a relationship to benefit the region."

"We strongly believe in the power between emotional wellness and physical wellness, which is one of the many reasons we're excited to partner with The University of Kansas Health System," explained John Watson, president of Hallmark retail. "We hope this store can be a place for patients, their families and employees to take a moment to recharge and discover meaningful ways to connect with others."

A ribbon-cutting media event, involving Hallmark and health system executives, is slated for 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in front of the store.
