The University of Kansas Health System ranked nationally in 8 specialties on U.S. News & World Report's 2017-18 Best Hospitals List

The University of Kansas Named to Healthgrades' Lists

Published: 11/03/2016

Kansas City, Kan. — Healthgrades, an online resource for information about U.S. hospitals and physicians, has named The University of Kansas Hospital one of "America's Best 50 Hospitals," based on consistent clinical excellence. No other hospital in Kansas or Missouri was listed in the top 50.

In its 2017 Report to the Nation, Denver-based Healthgrades takes into account patients' risk for complications and mortality with common surgeries. It evaluated the performance of nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing their performance relative to each of 32 common conditions and procedures, as well as an evaluation of comparative outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 18 states.

In another Healthgrades report, The University of Kansas also received an Outstanding Patient Experience Award for 2016.

A total of 448 U.S. hospitals received the award, including 10 in Kansas and 11 in Missouri. These were awarded based on patient survey responses to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys. The winning hospitals represent the top 15 percent in the nation for patient experience.

Healthgrades decided on the winners after evaluating 3,858 hospitals that submitted patient surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Those surveys covered admissions from April 2014 to March 2015. The survey questions focus on patients' perspectives of their care during their inpatient hospital stay.
