Patient Information

These videos will help you better understand your upcoming surgical procedure and get on track to take an active role in your health care and recovery.

Exercise: Before Joint Replacement

In this series for videos, Glori Hausner, a Physical Therapist at the University of Kansas Health System and former patient, Joann Suther, demonstrate exercises you can do at home prior to your knee or hip replacement surgery.

Before Joint Replacement: Arm Exercises

These arm exercises will strengthen the arm muscles you will use with crutches or a walker after surgery. Perform each exercise 10-15 times, twice a day with both arms. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your doctor.

Before Hip Replacement: Exercises

These exercises can reduce pain and increase strength to improve your recovery after hip replacement surgery. Perform each exercise 5-10 times, twice a day with both legs. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your doctor.

Before Knee Replacement: Exercises

These exercises can reduce pain, improve range of motion, and increase strength to improve your recovery after knee replacement surgery. Perform each exercise 5-10 times, twice a day with both legs. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your doctor. Your recovery starts now.
