Brow/Forehead Lift

Our Overland Park plastic surgery practice is proud to offer a variety of brow lift surgery techniques. These procedures can accomplish the following cosmetic goals:

Would a brow lift be right for me?

The brow lift can rejuvenate the forehead area above the eyes, helping you appear younger and better rested. The procedure lifts the brow, opening the eyes and correcting wrinkles. This individualized procedure can be combined with other facial surgeries and can be individualized to meet your needs.

Good candidates for brow lift surgery are those who exhibit conditions such as forehead wrinkles, glabellar lines, crow's feet and sagging/aging brow. To be eligible for surgery, you should be healthy and maintain realistic expectations about the outcome and associated risks.

How is a brow lift performed?

The brow lift may take between one and two hours to perform and is generally completed under local anesthesia with an intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. Before beginning, your face will be cleansed and your hair will be tied back and/or trimmed behind the hairline. Your plastic surgeon will then choose to perform the incision in one of several available techniques. which travels across the top common techniques include the endoscopic method, which uses 4-5 small incisions behind the hairline, or the traditional method which travels across the top of the head behind the hairline.

Your plastic surgeon will then lift the forehead skin, removing or altering the underlying muscles and tissues to create a smoother appearance. Your brows are then elevated and secured with sutures or another fixation device. Finally, your plastic surgeon will use stitches or clips to close smaller incisions.

In an endoscopic brow lift, small incisions are made and a tiny camera
is used to view under the surface of the skin. This method is
known to provide a shorter recovery time after brow lift surgery.

What can I expect after a brow lift?

You should expect to wear an absorbent dressing following the procedure and have your stitches removed within a week, at which point you may be able to return to your normal routine. Numbness, nausea, swelling and discomfort are common and pain may be managed with medication. You will have to limit activity in the weeks following the procedure, as well as avoid prolonged sun exposure for several months. The effects of your brow lift should last between five and ten years.

Some possible complications associated with brow lift procedures may include nerve damage, hair loss along scar edges, infection or overcorrection. Ask your plastic surgeon for more details if you are concerned about possible brow lift complications.
