The Donor

There are more people waiting for liver transplants than there are organs available. Consider signing up to be an organ donor.Today in the United States, there are more people waiting for liver transplants than there are organs available. The University of Kansas Health System's liver transplant program currently uses only organs from deceased donors.

Deceased donors are people who make previous arrangements to donate their organs after death, providing gifts of life to many in need. We thoroughly evaluate all deceased donors and organs to determine suitability for donation to specific patients.

We use standard criteria donors for liver transplant. These are individuals who have been declared brain dead, though their hearts still function.
