The Donor

Organ donors give hope and renew lives

Today in the U.S., there are more people waiting for a pancreas transplant than there are organs available. Our transplant program currently uses only deceased donors for pancreas transplant. (Because people can't live without a pancreas, living donors donate only a segment of pancreas.)

Deceased donors are people who registered to donate their organs after death. We thoroughly evaluate all deceased donors and organs to determine suitability for donation to a specific patient.

We use standard criteria donors for pancreas transplant. These donors have been declared brain dead although their heart still functions.
