Laura Parks, MD

Dr. Laura ParksLaura A. Parks, MD, is an associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is the Director of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Dr. Parks is truly excited to return to Kansas City and join the University of Kansas Department of OB/GYN! She grew up in Olathe, Kansas and attended The University of Kansas for undergraduate school. While there, she received a Bachelor of Science in cellular biology and a Bachelor of Arts in French literature. She then went on to complete her Medical Degree at the University of Kansas, School of Medicine in 2004. Dr. Park's residency training brought her to St. Louis, Missouri, where she completed her OB/GYN residency at Saint Louis University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2008. She served as the administrative chief resident her final year.

Following residency, Dr. Parks stayed in St. Louis and joined the academic faculty at Washington University School of Medicine where she spent nine years as an associate professor in the Divisions of General Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. It was during this time that she trained to specialize in pediatric and adolescent gynecology with one of the best physicians in the field.

Dr. Parks loves to take care of patients from baby girls to adolescents to women in menopause! She strongly believes that her patients (and their parents if children) should be knowledgeable of the wide array of treatment options available, both surgical and nonsurgical. She strives to treat all her patients with respect and care with a goal of creating a strong physician-patient relationship. She believes in minimally invasive surgery and performs most surgeries, including hysterectomy, either laparoscopically or vaginally.

She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. And, also a board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was elected to fellowship in the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society. Dr. Parks is a member of multiple professional societies and organizations including American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, the Society of Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She has received several awards including the Berlex Best Teaching Resident in 2006, Junior and Senior Resident Research Awards 2006 and 2007, Excellence in Teaching Award at Washington University in 2009, Top 10% of Washington University Physicians for patient satisfaction for 2009-2016, Best Doctors in America 2015-2017 and the Distinguished Teaching Service Award, chosen by WUSM 3rd year medical students, Washington University School of Medicine 2016.

Dr. Parks is married with two beautiful children. They love to spend time as a family traveling, hiking and camping. And, she loves to bake and decorate cakes for her family!
