Products and Plants Harmful to Pets
Don't assume that foods safe for humans are safe for pets. There are a number of human foods you should not feed your pet. Do not feed your pet:
- Alcohol
- Avocados
- Chocolate
- Coffee
- Fatty foods
- Garlic
- Grapes
- Macadamia nuts
- Onions
- Products with xylitol
- Raisins
- Salt
- Yeast dough
Medications harmful to pets
Do not give your pet any medication that was prescribed for a human. Common medications that can be harmful to pets, even if given in small doses, include:
- Antibiotics (unless specifically prescribed for your pet)
- Antidepressants
- Cancer drugs
- Cold medicines
- Diet pills
- Painkillers (aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, morphine, etc.)
- Vitamins
Household products harmful to pets
Common household products can be very dangerous for both children and pets. Common poisons include:
- Ant traps
- Antifreeze
- Batteries
- Cigarettes
- Cleaning products
- Dishwashing detergent
- Fabric softener sheets
- Fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides
- Gasoline
- Hair-removal products
- Ice-melting products
- Liquid potpourri
- Medications
- Mothballs
- Mouthwash
- Nail polish remover
- Outdoor products
