Residency and Fellowship Programs

As an academic medical center, The University of Kansas Health System prepares clinical and nonclinical professionals to pursue excellence in every aspect of patient care and outcomes. As a resident in any of our programs, you will expand your knowledge, sharpen your leadership skills and develop responsibility and academic relevance. And you will put this knowledge into daily practice.

Our nursing residency program helps new graduate nurses adapt to a stimulating, fast-paced healthcare environment. The program emphasizes critical thinking, leadership, evidence-based nursing practice, patient safety and professional career advancement. Nurses who participate in this program report very high job satisfaction.

Reilly Nursing Leadership Fellowship

This 2-year advanced leadership program is designed for experienced health system nursing leaders. We plan to open it up to those who work for other organizations in the future. The program provides structure, resources and dedicated time for fellows to explore, learn, adopt and contribute to the knowledge and skills necessary to further their leadership skills. Fellows receive financial support and other resources to concentrate their time and efforts on a specific project or subject. The fellowship was created in 2018 through a generous gift by grateful patients Charla and Jerry Reilly of Leavenworth, Kansas.

Our physician residency and fellowship programs offer more than 20 areas of specialization. These programs are operated under the oversight of the University of Kansas School of Medicine's Graduate Medical Education Office.

Participants in our pharmacy residency program expand their clinical knowledge, sharpen leadership skills and develop responsibility and scholarly relevance.

A residency in clinical pastoral education provides professional training for people interested in serving the spiritual needs of patients and families. The program is accredited by the Center for Spiritual Care and Pastoral Formation and the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy.

Our administrative fellowship program provides exceptional leadership and management training within an academic medicine environment. As participants work on projects across various areas of the health system, they gain the skills to become exceptional leaders in healthcare.
