Cynthia Garner: It's a pretty dark day when you get that phone call that says, "You've got a cancer." The darker day is when you find out that it's invasive and that you have to go through 9 months, basically, of treatments. It literally took my breath away. Those donations help give hope when it doesn't seem very hopeful. You got to go to The University of Kansas Cancer Center. You've got to go because they're specialists. That's what they do. That's all they do.
Ashleigh Hipp:I had a high-risk pregnancy. Alexander and Andrew were born at 23 weeks and 6 days. They were each 1 lb. 3 oz. When my current doctor said, "You need to go to The University of Kansas Health System," when we got to the hospital we just knew this is where we needed to be. And look at them now. They're 5 years old. They're playing, they're having fun. They are healthy. We owe that to The University of Kansas Health System.
Kyle Warren:He said, "Before, you know, I tell you anything, I just want you to remain optimistic." I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Yeah, I was just completely shocked. Just took the time that I needed for them to be there. I remember when they told me they thought they had a heart. When 10 days, they came in and said you know, "We think we have 1 for you." Getting a second opinion at The University of Kansas Health System was the best thing I ever did.
Laura Perez: I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer. It is a rough path to go down, but at the end you would feel a lot better. You'll get a better perspective on life and you will feel different, but at the end it's really worth it; pushing through it and getting cancer-free. They really helped me with all my treatment. I'm really grateful for it, so I really wish that they could still keep giving donations and all that to help people in need.
