April 26, 2024

Forbes recently recognized The University of Kansas Health System as No. 10 in the nation — and No. 4 among healthcare and social service organizations — on its list of America's Best Large Employers for 2024. No other hospital or health system in the region was ranked in the large employer category.

This prestigious ranking highlights the health system’s commitment to not only exceptional patient care, but also to providing a supportive work environment for employees.

As a health system, we are committed to ensuring every team member feels valued, respected and empowered to put patients first.” Bob Page

President and CEO, The University of Kansas Health System

Forbes compiled the list based on a comprehensive study that evaluated numerous criteria related to work culture, including work-life balance, diversity, compensation and advancement opportunities. The study included direct feedback from more than 170,000 employees about their job experiences and whether they would recommend their workplace to others. Employers do not pay a fee to be named on Forbes’ list.

To qualify for recognition, employers must not only excel in their respective industries, but also demonstrate a profound, unwavering commitment to the well-being and professional growth of their employees.

Tammy Peterman, president of the Kansas City Division, expressed gratitude and pride related to the ranking: “It’s a testament to our culture of excellence and compassionate care, where people love the work they do and the team they work with.”

The ranking also underscores the health system’s role as a healthcare leader in the region. Every day, the health system aims to have a positive impact on employees, patients, families and the community.

Employees at the health system have consistently praised its collaborative atmosphere and team members’ shared passion for making a difference in people’s lives. In one nurse’s words, “I enjoy working here because of the staff in our department. Everyone is super fun to work with, cares tremendously and is always willing to help each other out. It’s a night-and-day difference from what I experienced at a different facility. I feel extremely blessed and thankful!”

As Bob Page, health system president and CEO, looks to the future, he remains dedicated to maintaining the high standards that earned the health system recognition as a top employer: “As a health system, we are committed to ensuring every team member feels valued, respected and empowered to put patients first.”
