Comprehensive Breast Imaging Services

Routine screening mammography

For those who have no breast health issues, such as a lump or unusual nipple discharge or pain, we offer 2D and 3D digital screening mammography.

Screening mammograms may be scheduled at any of our three locations. At our Westwood location, we accept walk-in screening exams during business hours, including evenings until 7 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Diagnostic mammography

If a screening mammogram indicates a suspicious area, or you have a lump or other clinical concern, we follow up with diagnostic mammography. To schedule a diagnostic exam, either call 913-588-4693 or have your physician fax us an order at 913-588-7872.

Additional diagnostic imaging

We offer additional diagnostic imaging options to investigate further a breast abnormality found in a mammogram.

  • Ultrasound – determines if a suspicious area is fluid-filled or solid. If the area is solid, we may perform a biopsy to rule out cancer.
  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) – aids in further diagnostic workup or high-risk screening.
  • Ductography/galactography – uses mammography and an injection of contrast material to create pictures of the inside of the breast's milk ducts. It is most commonly used when a woman has experienced a bloody or clear discharge from the breast nipple but has an otherwise normal mammogram.

Breast biopsy

If diagnostic imaging tests indicate a breast abnormality, you may require a breast biopsy. Biopsy involves removing a small sample of tissue through one of several techniques. The choice of technique depends on the location and quality of the tissue to be examined.

In addition to standard surgical biopsy, we offer a minimally invasive, highly accurate procedure. We collect tissue by image-guided needle biopsy using the latest imaging technology for accurate sampling. Image-guided options include:

  • Stereotactic-guided breast biopsy – uses X-rays to find tissue to remove and test.
  • Ultrasound-guided needle biopsy – uses sound waves to determine the placement of the needle for extracting fluid or solid cell tissue for examination.
  • MRI-guided needle biopsy – provides more accurate biopsy of MRI-detected abnormalities.
