Care for complex conditions

The University of Kansas Hospital cares for patients with the most complex medical and surgical conditions. We offer leading-edge options and advanced expertise only an academic medical center can provide. Oscar-nominated actor Joan Allen helps share this message so patients can make informed healthcare decisions.

Benefits of academic medicine

To raise community awareness about the benefits of choosing academic medicine, the hospital has created TV and radio messages, print ads and billboards. For the first time, Allen filmed the spots on location in the hospital’s Center for Advanced Heart Care, an operating room and a pre/post-surgery area.

This is Allen’s third year as the hospital’s spokesperson. During her visit, she said she supports the unique value and promise academic medicine brings to healthcare and is passionate for the cause.

These messages feature stories illustrating the hospital’s role in providing advanced care for the region’s most complex patients.

Adult split-liver transplant –  Performed last September, the procedure was the first of its kind in the area, saving the lives of two women.

Heart valves – Our hospital offers as many innovative heart valve options as any facility in the nation. These include minimally invasive procedures and advanced alternatives.

Support academic medicine

A fourth element is featured in print ads and online: a message about supporting academic medicine through contributions.

In this short video, Allen explains how gifts to The University of Kansas Hospital help transform the future of academic medicine right here in the heartland, ensuring leading-edge care for future generations.
