Getting to and from orientation

You have probably heard that we have a "parking problem." It's true. Due to increasing demand for our services, we have outgrown our parking capacity on the main campus. We rely on shuttles to efficiently transport employees between health system locations and to and from satellite parking areas.

For new employees attending orientation, we are providing space in the Arts District Garage adjacent to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The garage is located off 17th and Wyandotte streets and is just a 10-minute shuttle ride to the main campus, where you will attend orientation. The underground garage offers 24/7 security, covered parking and its own dedicated "Arts Center" shuttle route.

Here are the essentials you need to know:

  • Enter the Arts Center parking garage from 17th Street.
  • On the first day, take a parking ticket to enter the garage. Bring the ticket with you to orientation. We will give you a card that you will use to access the garage on subsequent orientation days.
  • You will not be the only person riding the shuttle – look for other new employees on their way to orientation and current employees on their way to work.
  • Feel free to tell the shuttle driver and other riders that you are going to new employee orientation. You may make some new friends!
  • You will receive a parking assignment and additional shuttle information during orientation.
  • Don't add to your "first-day jitters" by running late! Allow enough time to be at orientation on time. You may have to wait up to 10 minutes for the shuttle; the ride to the main campus is another 10 minutes.
  • It's a big campus and can be confusing to the newcomer. The good news is that everyone is helpful and friendly, so if you find yourself lost or uncertain, ask your shuttle driver or anyone wearing a badge for assistance. Just tell them you're new and need to get to orientation.
