Burn injuries require quick attention... they are time critical. The multidisciplinary team at the Burnett Burn Center is the only adult and pediatric burn center in greater Kansas City accredited by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons.

On any given day any of us could have a medical emergency, where our health or even our lives are on the line. In those moments, decisions matter.

Where you go, and who you trust with your health, or that of a loved one.

We honor that trust at The University of Kansas Hospital, with our commitment to be the most qualified source in the region for time-critical care.

The University of Kansas Hospital is the region's only burn care facility accredited by the American Burn Association, and American College of Surgeons.

We have hydro-therapy for taking care of burns and dressings, we have dedicated ICUs and a dedicated OR, which is pretty unique.

We see these patients every day, it is our specialty, and that's what allows us to have that increased and advanced knowledge, and really provide that best care for the burn patient. We're very good about getting them through their hospital stay, but that's not where burn care ends.

We follow these patients throughout their lives even, for months and years to come, to make sure that they're able to go back to functioning in the community and their life.

Our main goal is ensuring that burn victims become burn survivors. No one can predict a medical emergency, but we can do our best to prepare for one.

And knowing where to find the best care in the region is an important first step.

The University of Kansas Hospital: why would you go anywhere else?

Inpatient Recovery Pavilion

A healing environment for recovery

Healing takes time. As patients and their families navigate the road to recovery, we offer resources and comfort areas to help them feel at home.

Hurlbut Recovery Pavilion

Our Hurlbut Recovery Pavilion provides a comfortable atmosphere to help patients and their families feel more at home during recovery. The pavilion honors David Hurlbut, who donated funds to create the facility. He credits our burn team with saving his life.

In 1988, David Hurlbut spent more than 2 months in the Burnett Burn Center. He was injured when a vat for coating metal pipes exploded 6 feet in front of his face, showering him with molten asphalt. With fourth-degree burns over 25% of his body, Hurlbut was unconscious for 6 weeks and underwent 27 surgeries on his torso, face, head, hands and legs.

Today Hurlbut is a dedicated father and a vital member of his community. He enjoys fishing, working on cars and driving his dune buggy.

We offer a variety of appointment types. Learn more or call 913-588-1227 to schedule now.
