Kansas City, Kan. — For the 10th consecutive year, The University of Kansas Hospital is the "Best Hospital in Kansas City" according to U.S. News & World Report. It is also the "Best Hospital in Kansas" for the 8th time. It is the only hospital to ever receive these honors.
The University of Kansas Hospital is also nationally ranked in 8 specialties, more than any other hospital in the region. In addition, 3 specialties are ranked as high-performing.
U.S. News rankings are based on a data-driven analysis of performance measures, including patient outcomes, nursing quality and the range of programs offered in any one specialty. They are also based on program reputation. These rankings were created to help patients with the most complex conditions find the most advanced care.
The 2019-20 national rankings for The University of Kansas Hospital are:
- Cancer (#47). Cancer care made the list for the 9th year in a row. It's the only program in the region to earn recognition.
- Diabetes & Endocrinology (#49). It's the 7th time the program has made the list.
- Ear, Nose & Throat (#32). It's the 9th time this program has been recognized.
- Geriatrics (#26). This is the 9th time geriatrics has made the list.
- Nephrology (kidney) (#33). Nephrology has been on the list 10 times.
- Neurology & Neurosurgery (#27). This specialty was listed for the 8th consecutive year.
- Pulmonology (#49). Pulmonology was ranked for the 10th year in a row.
- Urology (#19). Urology made the list for the 8th time.

The hospital is also listed as "high performing" in Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, and Orthopedics, which means it scored in the top 10% of all hospitals receiving a score in these specialties.
Of the more than 4,600 hospitals evaluated, only 165 ranked in at least one specialty.
