Prairie Village, Kan. — The pediatric specialists at The University of Kansas Health System in Prairie Village are now offering expanded appointment times for back-to-school care. Both new and returning patients can take advantage of convenient office hours when scheduling their child’s exam.

The newly renovated pediatric office, located at 7301 Mission Road, Suite 350, in Prairie Village, Kansas, provides comprehensive primary pediatric care and features:

Whether children receive their education in person or online, students are strongly encouraged to stay up-to-date on their well-child visits, vaccinations and chronic needs consultations – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Maintaining your child’s health is more important than ever," said Stephen Lauer, MD, PhD, board-certified pediatrician at The University of Kansas Health System. "We know around the world and in the U.S., there's been a dramatic drop in vaccination rates due to COVID-19. We need to correct that. We need to make sure children receive their routine care to protect themselves and prevent new outbreaks of other diseases. One of the worst things I can think of happening from this pandemic is a resurgence of those vaccine-preventable illnesses."

To ensure safe healthcare, The University of Kansas Health System has implemented a number of new health and safety protocols. Temperature screenings, proper PPE equipment, physical distancing, masks for patients and visitors, hand hygiene and increased sanitation practices are being practiced throughout all clinical areas. These guidelines are designed to optimize safety for patients, visitors and staff.

"We have deep experience in infection control and prevention for many contagious illnesses," said Dr. Lauer. "We're prepared and ready. Parents can rest assured that every precaution is being taken to protect them and their child."

We also offer care at the Medical Pavilion in Kansas City, Kansas, and KU MedWest in Shawnee, Kansas. Learn more about the pediatric services available at The University of Kansas Health System or call 913-588-1227 to schedule an appointment now.
