Call for Students to Apply to Nurse Academy 2021

Kansas City, Kan. — The University of Kansas Health System Nurse Academy 2021 invites high school seniors and juniors who are interested in exploring the nursing profession to apply for participation in the 2-day event. A parent or guardian must also sign the application.

Nurse Academy provides hands-on activities and presentations. Current plans are to host the event with participants attending in person. However, if indicated by coronavirus prevention measures in place at that time require, sessions will be held virtually.

Students who are entering the 11th and 12th grade and those who are entering their freshman year of college may apply. No fee is required, thanks to many generous donors and sponsors.

Dates and times are as follows:

    Nurse Academy
    Tuesday, July 27, and Wednesday, July 28, 2021
    7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. each day

The agenda topics will include information about certified nurse aide programs, nursing schools and employment/volunteer opportunities. The program will close with a special presentation and a summary of the 2 days.

Thirty students will be accepted into the Nurse Academy program. Due to an expected large volume of applicants, a wait list will be developed. Student applicants who have been accepted or placed on the wait list will be notified by email and/or telephone by Friday, April 30, 2021.

Participants must uphold the following professional standards during Nurse Academy.

  • Access cell phones only during designated breaks and limit use over lunch.
  • Interact and participate in all activities of Nurse Academy.
  • Observe social distancing guidelines
  • Practice hand hygiene
  • Wear a mask at all times, covering both nose and mouth
  • Wear appropriate clothing (i.e., nice jeans or slacks, without rips or holes) and closed-toe shoes

Please review the application. All forms are due Monday April 12, 2021. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please make sure both the student and parent/guardian sign the application.

*May be mailed/emailed separately from the rest of the application. Otherwise, submit all other parts of the application together.
