Every day is a blessing. – Delbert Wright
Heart attack survivor receives implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
It can take years of research to develop a new treatment for heart disease, but when this process bears fruit, patients at The University of Kansas Health System are among the first to reap the rewards.
Delbert Wright is one of the patients who benefited from a new discovery by taking part in a clinical trial. The hospital was a lead enrolling medical center in a study that treated heart attack survivors with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).
Now it's as if Wright carries his own ambulance crew with him. The ICD that physicians placed in his chest has saved the life of the avid outdoorsman and great-grandfather at least three times. And the device he helped test is available to help other patients around the world.
