Working Remotely

The technical recommendations for working from home are outlined below.

 

Workstation/laptop hardware

  • Monitor size:  24 inches 1080p FHD or UHD 4k
  • Monitor resolution:  1940 x 1080
  • Webcam/Video resolution:  1080p/30fps - 720p/30fps
  • Surge protector and uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

 

Workstation/laptop software

  • Operating System (Windows):  Windows 10
  • Operating System (Apple):  Catalina, High Sierra, Mohave
  • Current anti-virus software at all times
  • Citrix Workspace

 

Home network

Hard-wired/Cable networked is recommended for all users, and is required for diagnostic reading (Radiologist/Remote Image user).

For WIFI connections, recommendations are:

  • 11 WPA2 – 5 GHZ with secure password
  • Minimum signal strength:  -70 dBm and 80 RSSI
  • WIFI extenders are not supported or recommended
  • Power-line communication or network over power adapters are not supported or recommended

 

Internet service (bandwidth/connectivity)

Operations/Business users:

  • Wired internet connection recommended for part-time remote users, required for full-time remote users
  • Minimum download speed:  6 Mbps recommended, 3 Mbps required
  • Minimum upload speed:  1 Mbps recommended; 512 kbps required
  • Mobile hotspots/satellite connections are not recommended or supported

 

Radiologists/Remote Image users (diagnostic readings):

  • Wired internet provider connection required
  • Minimum download speed:  300 Mbps recommended, 100 Mbps required
  • Minimum upload speed:  8 Mbps recommended, 5 Mbps required
  • Mobile hotspots/satellite connections are not recommended or supported

Printing at home

Printing health system-related documents at home on personal printers is not supported or recommended for security reasons. Also, the health system does not send printers home with end users.

 

60-mile radius rule

Health system employees living within a 60-mile radius of the main campus need to coordinate with HITS to pick up new computer equipment or drop off malfunctioning equipment at one of the health system facilities. For employees living beyond 60 miles, HITS will coordinate shipping items to and from the employee’s home.
