APP and Graduate Nursing Student Clinical Placement
The University of Kansas Health System is committed to preparing future healthcare professionals to efficiently and effectively manage care and outcomes. We believe that shared expertise and collaboration among physicians, nurses, researchers, educators, APPs and other professionals lead to a stronger learning environment.
When feasible, the health system’s advanced practice providers, physicians and nurse leaders can serve as a preceptor for current graduate nursing and physician assistant program students.
Interested students should follow the application process for the appropriate health system campus.
Note: Each campus may have different affiliation agreements in place. Contact your school to determine if an agreement exists for your desired location.
Due to the high volume of student clinical rotation requests, a centralized process for pairing students with preceptors at the 39th and Rainbow campus and clinic locations began in March 2026. Students should not contact individual preceptors to make arrangements for clinical rotations.
Requests must come from the academic program or student, as directed by their academic program.
Requests must be submitted during specified date ranges based on the start date of your rotation. Use the chart below to determine when to apply. If you have more than one rotation request, you must submit a separate application for each rotation request.

Due to the high volume of student clinical rotation requests, we use a centralized process for pairing students with preceptors for all Olathe and Paola hospitals and clinics. Students should not need to contact individual preceptors to make arrangements for clinical rotations.
Requests must come from the academic program or student, as directed by their academic program.
Requests should be submitted no less than 60 days and no more than 6 months before requested rotation dates. If you have more than one rotation request, you must submit a separate application for each rotation request.
Note: At the Olathe and Paola campuses and clinic locations we offer placement in urgent care, family medicine, internal medicine/pediatrics and some select specialties. There is limited availability for emergency, surgical and psych rotations. We currently do not offer placement in women's health or pediatrics.
