Choose Your Health Insurance

Kansas City, Kan. — Now is about the time that most health insurance plans offer open enrollment for healthcare coverage in the next calendar year. Whether you choose a plan offered by your employer or select one on the open marketplace, it’s important to understand whether the providers you see or plan to see are included. If not, you’ll either have to pay more to see your preferred provider or transition your care to an in-network provider. Health system patients in Kansas and Missouri will find The University of Kansas Health System in-network for the following health plans for 2023: 

On the open marketplace

On the open marketplace, a provision of the Affordable Care Act, you’ll find health system providers included in the following plan options. To enroll, visit HealthCare.gov between November 1, 2022, and January 15, 2023. You’ll need to enroll by December 15, 2022, for coverage to begin on January 1, 2023.

  • Aetna CareLink
    Coverage is offered for members in Missouri only.

  • BCBS Kansas
    o Coverage is offered for members who live in all counties in Kansas except for Johnson and Wyandotte counties.
    o The health system is in-network for all services except Ambulatory Surgery Center services at KU MedWest in Shawnee.

  • Sunflower or Home State/Ambetter
    Coverage is offered for members in Kansas and Missouri in the counties surrounding the metro area.

  • Oscar
    Coverage is offered for members in Kansas and Missouri in the counties surrounding the metro area.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City/Blue Select
    Coverage is offered for members in the metro area.

The University of Kansas Health System is in-network for most major plans offered through employers. Check your plan’s list of network providers to see if your doctors and other providers are in the network. To see the plans we participate in, review this list.

If your insurance changes

If you are a patient of The University of Kansas Health System and you change your insurance plan for the upcoming year, be sure to let us know.

You can update your information in MyChart from the comfort of home in advance of any visit (in the main menu, choose Insurance Summary and follow the prompts), call 913-588-1227 any time, or share your information upon check-in for a visit.
