Adult Cystic Fibrosis

The adult cystic fibrosis clinic was founded in 1993 and was accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation shortly thereafter in 1996. Starting from the ground up, we have built a program of excellence that is focused on patient care. We have grown to become one of the largest adult centers in the Midwest region. We are the only adult center in the Kansas City metropolitan area and we serve an extensive patient population in western Missouri and eastern Kansas.

Patients at our adult CF clinic are given a mask to wear in community areas upon checking in at the front desk. Once checked in, a nurse takes each patient's weight and height, and escorts them to a private room where vital signs are obtained. Each patient will see each CF team member at every visit if time allows and/or if they have special needs to address with that provider. Clinic visits usually last 60-90 minutes at a time.

New patient information

We want to welcome you to the Cystic Fibrosis clinic and give you some information on what to expect at your first clinic visit. Please bring your parking ticket with you when checking in so that it can be validated. This ensures you only have to pay $3.00 for parking during your visit.

Please be sure to bring these items to your first clinic visit:

  • Insurance card(s)
  • Pharmacies you currently use
  • List of all medications you take
  • Diary of treatment regimen
  • Any symptoms you may be experiencing
  • Any and all questions for your new CF team

Social work

Patients will be seen by the social worker at least annually or as needed if they have specific concerns to address. The social worker assists patients in obtaining and understanding insurance, connecting them with patient assistance programs and resources, and assistance in starting the disability process.

Respiratory therapy

Patients will be seen by the respiratory therapist at every clinic visit to obtain spirometry, discuss breathing treatments and practice airway clearance techniques. Spirometry is done in the clinic room during your visit.

Patients will be seen by the dietitian annually or as needed for specific concerns. The dietitian will address any nutrition concerns including vitamin supplementation, pancreatic enzyme therapy and access to nutritional supplements.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you!
