Our facial plastic surgeons

John Flynn, MDJ. David Kriet, MD, FACS and Clinton D. Humphrey, MD, FACS are board certified facial plastic surgeons at The University of Kansas Health System. Together, they make up the division of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in the nationally recognized department of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. They are experts in cosmetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgery.

Dr. Flynn, Dr. Kriet and Dr. Humphrey are authorities and lecturers in their field, constantly working to pioneer new procedures and educate other facial plastic surgeons. They are passionate researchers and have authored numerous scholarly articles in their efforts to improve surgical results and develop leading-edge techniques. Additionally, they serve as editors for leading academic journals, which keeps them up to date on the latest research that may improve their patients’ results.

Dr. Flynn’s deep expertise in surgical procedures to restore facial movement has driven him to focus on treating those with facial paralysis, also called facial palsy. He believes in using a multidisciplinary team approach to provide comprehensive medical and surgical management for this type of patient. He also actively participates in clinical research to advance the treatment for all facial paralysis disorders. In addition, Dr. Flynn provides a variety of facial reconstruction procedures and cosmetic facial procedures.

  • With a passion for treatment of facial paralysis, Dr. John Flynn has clinical expertise in surgical procedures for restoration of facial movement. Through a multidisciplinary team approach, he focuses on comprehensive medical and surgical management for those with facial paralysis. He actively participates in clinical research to advance outcomes in treatment of facial paralysis disorders.

    Dr. Flynn also performs a wide variety of facial plastic surgery, including rhinoplasty, Mohs defect reconstruction (after removal of skin cancer), ear reconstruction and facial trauma. He also specializes in cosmetic facial surgery, including upper and lower facelift, blepharoplasty, and other facial rejuvenation procedures.

    Dr. John Flynn is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He completed fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School. He earned his medical degree from University of Texas Health System in San Antonio and completed his residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

  • Facial plastic surgeon J. David Kriet has improved the lives of countless men and women who have trusted him with their appearance. Since 1998, he has practiced in the University of Kansas department of otolaryngology as a professor, and as the director for the division of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

    Dr. Kriet has earned many awards and honors throughout his career and during his education and training. His medical education includes:

    • University of Oklahoma College of Medicine – medical degree
    • University of Washington, Seattle – otolaryngology residency (head and neck surgery)
    • Oregon Health and Sciences University – fellowship – facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons (sponsored by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)

  • Clinton D. Humphrey, MD, FACS, is a facial plastic surgeon and board-certified otolaryngologist/head and neck surgeon. He is currently an associate professor of facial plastic surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and has given presentations at leading facial plastic surgery and otolaryngology meetings and symposiums all over the United States.
