Home Health

What is home health?
Home health services can be used to help recover following an illness or injury. It can also help minimize effects of a medical condition or disability or maintain function when dealing with a chronic condition.
Getting services at home also allows your family to take an active role. You and your physician will work together to develop a treatment plan that maximizes the level of individual care provided.
Home health services
Home health services are wide-ranging and may include:
- Wound care for pressure sores or surgical wounds
- Patient and caregiver education
- Intravenous or nutrition therapy
- Injections
- Monitoring serious illness and unstable health status
- Ostomy care
- Post joint replacement care
- Balance/vestibular therapies
- Driving screenings (determine need for further evaluation)
- Low-vision program support
- Nutrition care and support
- Hearing impaired communication device program services
Who can have home health care?
Many people qualify for home health services without realizing that they do. While a large percentage of patients leaving the hospital can receive care at home, others who visit their physician for routine check-ups may also meet the requirements to receive home assistance. If you or a loved one has a chronic disease, mobility issues or requires regular medical appointments, ask your doctor whether home health services are available.
Home healthcare may be reimbursable under Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, private insurances, workers’ compensation, Veterans Affairs or private pay.
