LSVT BIG and LOUD Program

Named after Mrs. Lee Silverman, the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) Program began by using speech therapy to help improve Parkinson’s disease or LSVT LOUD. More recently, the principles of the speech program were applied to lower extremity and upper extremity movement, creating a physical therapy and an occupational therapy component or LSVT BIG.

What is the LSVT Program?

The LSVT Program is designed to improve the voice and movements of individuals with Parkinson’s disease. There are LSVT-certified therapists across the disciplines of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. LSVT BIG is applied by therapists in physical therapy and occupational therapy. LSVT LOUD is applied by speech therapists. This program consists of treatment 4 days a week for 4 weeks, daily homework practice and daily carryover exercises.
