Leading-edge care
As leaders in cardiovascular care, our team uses advanced diagnostic tools including nuclear medicine/PET myocardial imaging accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission and advanced imaging including CardioScore, cardiac CT scan, cardiac MRI and echocardiogram. We are the only hospital in the region with an on-site cyclotron for cardiac PET imaging.
Our advanced heart failure and transplant program includes a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, cardiologists, cardiac nurse navigators and other professionals who work together to identify the best possible course of treatment for each patient. Services include bridge-to-transplant services, complex heart surgery, heart failure infusion, heart transplant surgery and LVAD care. Our team is part of the most comprehensive solid organ transplant program in the region, completing 42 heart transplants in 2024. Our program features readmission rates for heart patients below the national median and the length of stay for heart patients is among the top 5 shortest in the country.
The cardiac amyloidosis program at The University of Kansas Health System is one of the nation’s top programs for treatment of this disease, and our multidisciplinary team has unparalleled amyloidosis treatment experience. Our program provides the latest testing and diagnostics, including scintigraphy to identify and distinguish amyloid proteins. We offer all FDA-approved treatment options for both wild-type ATTR amyloidosis and hereditary amyloidosis. As part of an academic medical center, we participate in many national clinical trials for advanced treatment.
Aortic care at The University of Kansas Health System is made up of multiple specialists working together to provide the best care for your patients. Our team includes cardiac and vascular surgeons, interventional cardiologists and radiologists who manage complex endovascular and surgical care. Your patients will have access to state-of-the-art imaging to support complex aortic disease and advanced treatment options including open, endovascular and hybrid procedures. We can often include your patients in potentially lifesaving clinical trials and treatment options not available anywhere else.
The University of Kansas Health System is among the few hospitals in the nation offering cardio-oncology to monitor and manage possible cardiovascular side effects of cancer treatments. Heart care physicians and cancer specialists work together to create a tailored treatment plan to allow patients to continue cancer treatment while minimizing damage to their heart. Our program was named a Gold Status Center of Excellence by the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
The University of Kansas Health System has the only adult congenital heart disease program in Kansas. Our team works closely with pediatric congenital heart patients as they transition from pediatric to adult care. Your patients will have access to more than 200 specialists to care for the unique healthcare needs of an adult with congenital heart disease. Our physicians and nurses have extensive training and experience in treating congenital heart disease, allowing us to provide comprehensive care for every patient.
The University of Kansas Health System is one of the highest volume centers in the country for advanced treatment for heart valve disorders and was one of the first in the region to perform complex, minimally invasive heart valve procedures. Our surgeons treat many patients who have been considered too high-risk by other cardiac care programs, yet more of these patients survive than expected.
