Choose Your Health Insurance for 2027

September 29, 2026

Kansas City, Kan. — Open enrollment season is approaching, the time of year when most health insurance plans allow you to sign up, change or drop coverage for the next calendar year.

No matter if you choose a plan offered by an employer or from the open marketplace, it is important to know if the facilities and providers you choose are in-network for your insurance plan.

It is common for insurance plans to change. We do our best to inform patients, staff and referring providers of insurance changes. However, always check with your insurance carrier for details on specific coverage.

A few important notes:

  • Health share programs: The University of Kansas Health System does not accept health share programs as insurance plans. Health share program members may receive care from the health system as self-pay patients. Learn more about our self-pay collections policy.
  • Medicaid: Medicaid members should be aware of changes anticipated to go into effect January 1, 2027, including eligibility verification expanding from once a year to twice a year. It is important to ensure your contact information is correct using your state’s portal and that you respond promptly to any mailed or emailed Medicaid requests for information.

Private insurance plans (employer or individual-sponsored)

The University of Kansas Health System is in-network for most major insurance plans. For a list of accepted insurances at each health system campus, go to KansasHealthSystem.com/Insurance.

Even if you are staying in the same plan as previous years, be sure to review coverage details from your insurance carrier. It is common for insurance networks to change.

If you are considering a plan other than those listed, contact your insurance carrier to ensure your providers are in-network for the plan you choose.

Great Bend: Our Great Bend Campus is listed in insurance plans as:

  • UKHS GB LLC
  • UKHS Great Bend Medical Pavilion
  • UKHS Great Bend St. Rose Medical Pavilion
  • UKHS Great Bend Family Medicine

Medicare and Medicare Advantage

There are important differences to understand when choosing between Original Medicare plans and Medicare Advantage plans. We recommend using resources such as the Kansas Hospital Association’s Tools on Original Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage to learn more.

Notes:

  • Great Bend: If you receive care with a provider at our Great Bend Campus, note that the health system is only in-network for two Medicare Advantage plans in Great Bend: Humana and Wellcare Kansas Medicare Advantage plans. We are in-network for all Medicare plans in Great Bend.
  • Paola and Miami County: If you receive care in the Paola area, note that the health system is out-of-network for the Humana Medicare Advantage Community plan and Wellcare Missouri Medicare Advantage. The health system is in-network for many other Medicare Advantage plans.
