Who can have SkinPen microneedling?

SkinPen microneedling can address a number of skin concerns on the face, hands, neck and décolletage. You may benefit from this treatment if you are bothered by any of the following cosmetic concerns:

  • Acne scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Wrinkles

How does SkinPen microneedling work?

SkinPen microneedling uses a handheld device to create microperforations, or minor injuries, in the surface layers of skin and catalyze the body’s natural repair mechanisms. As a result, collagen and elastin production is stimulated while growth factors are released to revitalize the skin and achieve a complexion that is vibrant and healthy. This collagen-inducing therapy can typically be used on all skin types for many common skin conditions, and it involves little to no downtime.

Benefits and risks of SkinPen microneedling

SkinPen microneedling is a safe and effective way to improve the quality and health of your skin without a lot of downtime or side effects. After just a few treatments, you'll notice that your skin looks more evenly toned and radiant. SkinPen is extremely versatile and can be used to correct a variety of skin conditions on many different areas of the body.

The risks and side effects of micronnedling include minor redness, swelling and soreness. These reactions are completely normal and should subside within a few hours or days. There is usually no downtime required after microneedling treatment and you should be able to return to work or normal activities immediately.

What happens during SkinPen microneedling?

SkinPen microneedling is performed in-office and generally takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the level of improvement needed. Before treatment, a topical anesthetic (numbing agent) can be applied to enhance comfort.

During your procedure, the SkinPen device is carefully drawn over the skin – creating tiny microchannels on the surface of the skin that encourages the body’s natural healing response. Collagen and elastin production are stimulated, which enhances skin tone and texture.

Many people see results immediately after treatment. However, final results are typically seen in the weeks following your initial session as your skin fully heals. This can take up to 6 months.

Depending on your skin concerns, multiple treatment sessions may be needed for best results. Typically, a series of 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is ideal.
