KANSAS CITY, Kan. — It's safe to assume the new Roasterie Café in Cambridge Tower A will be just as popular as its other two main campus locations when it opens to patients and the public today.
Conveniently located on the second floor near the Burns and McDonald pedestrian bridge entrance, the café features a new signature blend that was taste-tested, selected and named by a team of employees. "Bridge Blend" features notes of cocoa and hazelnut, and is rich and bold with a smooth finish.
The six-person team that developed the Bridge Blend involved staff with close ties to the new tower: Allie Comley, unit coordinator in the new operating rooms; Meredith Franks, RN, specialty coordinator in the facility's operating rooms; Sarah Luecke, RN, unit coordinator in Neuroscience/ENT Progressive Care, which is moving into the tower's sixth floor; Transporter Tom McGranaghan; Linda Nagel, manager of operations and capital projects; and Shelby Pierson, unit coordinator in the tower's pre/post surgery unit.
To develop the Bridge Blend, the group took a coffee-tasting trip to The Roasterie's main location in October, where they sampled a variety of coffees from around the world. Back in December 2015, a group of employees made a similar excursion to create the "3901 Blend" now served in the Center for Advanced Heart Care's café.
The menu at the new Roasterie in Cambridge Tower A includes freshly baked muffins, assorted sweets, sandwiches, salads, fresh-brewed coffee and a full selection of barista-made specialty drinks. You can visit the café during operating hours:
- Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
- Saturday-Sunday 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
Cash and credit cards are accepted, as well as patient, volunteer and department vouchers.
