KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Fall is a busy time for sports and sports injuries. To help keep you in the game, The University of Kansas Health System's Sports Medicine and Performance Center just made it easier to get your aches and pains checked out in Overland Park, Kansas. Between September 1 and November 17, the center will be open for walk-in appointments from 8-11 a.m. on Saturdays.
Orthopedic care is now available when – and where – you need it.
"We're extending our hours to make exceptional orthopedic care even more convenient for high school athletes and weekend warriors in Johnson County," says Charles Rozanski, vice president of orthopedics and sports medicine.
Rozanski points out that the new hours are not just for kids and sports enthusiasts. The clinic also serves busy professionals who can't find time for a weekday appointment. "We're working overtime so our patients don't have to miss a single hour of work," he says.
Patients who come to the Sports Medicine and Performance Center on Saturdays will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis. There's no appointment or referral needed. A sports medicine specialist will evaluate, diagnose and treat most injuries. If needed, a follow-up appointment can be scheduled with the appropriate physician or therapist.
"We expect to see typical problems like sprains, strains, concussions, joint injuries and bone fractures," Rozanski says. "We suggest you visit one of our other locations during regular business hours or the emergency department in cases of lacerations, open fractures, chronic pain, wound care, cast problems or back or neck issues. Medication refills will be unavailable during these extended hours."
