Prenatal Labs and Vaccinations
Labs
First trimester
- CBC (blood count)
- HIV
- Hepatitis B
- Syphilis
- Rubella
- Blood type & antibody screen
- Urinalysis
- Optional testing
- Nuchal translucency (NT) screen
- Genetic carrier screening
- Hemoglobin electrophoresis
Second trimester
- Ultrasound/anatomy scan, 20-22 weeks
- Diabetes (glucose) testing, hemoglobin & hematocrit, blood type & antibody screen, syphilis, 24-28 weeks
- Optional testing
- MSAFP or quad screen, 15-22 weeks (testing to screen for genetic disorders, e.g. Down syndrome, or neural tube defects, e.g. spina bifida)
Third trimester
- GBS, approximately 35-37 weeks
Vaccinations
Recommended vaccines:
- Flu vaccine – for all pregnant patients between October through April
- Rhogram (given if blood type is Rh negative), 28 weeks and after birth, if indicated
- Tdap vaccine for pertussis (whooping cough), 27-36 weeks
