Meeting your surgeon

You will meet your surgeon at KU MedWest to discuss your procedure and schedule your appointment. Before your meeting, ask your primary care physician to fax or mail results of any tests to our offices.

List your medications

Please bring a list of all medications you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as vitamins and supplements. It is important to tell your surgeon if you are taking any blood-thinning medications, such as:

  • Aspirin
  • Coumadin
  • Ginko Biloba
  • Ginseng
  • Glucosamine
  • Heparin
  • Vitamin E

Your surgeon will tell you if you should discontinue these and other medications for a short time prior to your procedure.

Legal documents

If you have a living will or durable power of attorney, bring a copy to your visit. We will make a copy to place in your chart. We do not recognize advance directives. We will use all measures possible to sustain life.

Appointment confirmation

Several days before your procedure, a nurse will call to confirm your appointment, obtain your basic health information and review your pre-operative instructions. You can discuss any other questions or concerns about your care at this time.

It's very important that you speak with our nurse before your appointment. If we haven't called you by 3 p.m. the day before your procedure, be sure to call us at 913-588-2279.

Appointment changes

If your appointment time changes, we will notify you after 2 p.m. the day before your procedure. Please provide a phone number we can use to contact you or leave a message.
