Families and visitors

We want you to feel comfortable during your stay. Here we offer some basic information about a variety of hospital services you should know about while you’re here. For a more detailed list, and accompanying links, visit the hospital’s Patient Guide.

We also offer a complimentary Patient Travel & Amenities Guide with information on nearby lodging, restaurants and other necessary services near The University of Kansas Health System's main and Indian Creek locations. You may request a copy at the hospital front desk.


The cafeteria is near the main elevator bank on the ground floor of the hospital. Hot meals, sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks are available Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-8 p.m. and weekends and holidays, 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

  • Vending machines are available 24 hours a day at the cafeteria entrance.
  • The Roasterie Café, on the ground floor of the Center for Advanced Heart Care, serves coffee, breakfast, lunch and snacks. The Roasterie Café is open Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

Gift shops

There are two gift shops that sell convenience items, drinks, snacks, cards, books, magazines and gift items.

  • Hallmark Gold Crown Store is located off the main lobby. Patients and visitors may visit the Sunflower Gift Shop (913-588-5496) on the first floor of Delp corridor.
  • You may also send a free e-card with your personalized message to patients in the hospital.

Visitors and visiting guidelines

As a courtesy to other families and visitors, you may have two visitors in the waiting room and surgery prep area. If possible, leave children at home. Young children must have an adult with them at all times and may not be left unattended. If you will have additional people accompanying you, we recommend they wait in the cafeteria or lobby.

General visiting hours: 11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Note: Some units and locations have specific guidelines and hours. The University of Kansas Health System front entrance is open 6 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. During overnight hours, entry is through the Emergency Department.
