Patient Evaluation for Blood and Marrow Transplant

We make sure a transplant is right for you

Our transplant doctors evaluate every patient to determine if blood and marrow transplant is your best option.

You or your primary care doctor can schedule a transplant evaluation appointment. Call:

  • 913-588-1227
  • Toll free: 844-323-1227

We'll assess your overall medical condition and discuss all viable treatment options with you.

Your transplant coordinator will schedule tests to determine your specific disease, your general health and your tolerance for high doses of chemotherapy. The types of tests depend on your specific condition and may include:

  • Bone scan
A radioactive tracer shows injury, infection, healing or disease of the bone.
  • Computed tomography
We make detailed, three-dimensional images of bone, organs and soft tissue in any part of the body.
  • Laboratory blood work
This may include a tissue type test and viral studies for infectious diseases (e.g., HIV and hepatitis).
  • Magnetic resonance imaging
MRI is painless and noninvasive. It uses a magnetic field to make two- and three-dimensional images of the body.
  • Bone marrow transplant conference
When we have the test results, your transplant doctor will present your case at a bone marrow transplant conference. This meeting includes transplant doctors, radiation oncologists, transplant nurse coordinators and experts from other medical specialties throughout our hospital.

Our team will discuss all aspects of your care, weigh the potential risks and benefits of a bone marrow transplant, and assess other treatment options.
