Philanthropy has historically been crucial to The University of Kansas Hospital

The University of Kansas Health System began a transformational journey more than 15 years ago when it became an independent hospital authority in 1998. Since that day, our health system has experienced one of the most dramatic turnarounds in the history of healthcare. From an organization once faced with enormous challenges, we now rank among the nation’s leading academic medical centers.

We occupy a unique position in the healthcare community, caring for patients that other hospitals do not have the resources or expertise to treat. As more and more patients turn to our health system for this advanced care, demand will soon outpace our capacity.

Gifts transform our hospital

In this video, respected actor and health system spokesperson Joan Allen explains how your gift will help transform the future of academic medicine right here in the heartland, ensuring leading-edge care for generations. She is passionate for the cause as she supports the unique value and promise academic medicine brings to healthcare.

Be part of advancing the power of medicine

Patient demand for the advanced care we provide is projected to surpass our current capacity in the very near future. To better meet the needs of the rapidly increasing number of patients who make The University of Kansas Health System their destination for lifesaving care, we must grow.

Our hospital does not receive state or local funding

As an independent hospital authority, we do not receive state appropriations. The health system runs as a not-for-profit organization. Our funding is supplied by the care we provide and the generous contributions of people like you.

The need is growing

In all areas, the health system is caring for more patients every year. Compared with other academic medical centers, The University of Kansas Health System is already dramatically undersized by contemporary standards on a square-foot-per-bed basis.
