While the services described here are provided by our facilities in the Kansas City area, the health system offers care in many locations, including Great Bend, Lawrence, Olathe, Paola and Topeka, Kansas.
Mental and behavioral health
We provide advanced psychiatric care and behavioral health services for adults and pediatric patients. Our multidisciplinary teams provide acute inpatient care as well as outpatient therapy.
Burn and wound
Our Gene and Barbara Burnett Burn Center is the only burn center in the region accredited for adult and pediatric care by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons. We provide individualized care for complex burns and wounds, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, wellness programs, survivor groups and more.
Cancer
The University of Kansas Cancer Center is 1 of fewer than 60 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation. Comprehensive designation is the highest level of recognition awarded by the NCI, granted only to cancer centers with the deepest and broadest knowledge of cancer.
We treat all forms of cancer, including brain, breast, lung, prostate, colon, sarcoma, head and neck and blood and marrow cancers.
Cardiology
Our heart team delivers leading-edge prevention, diagnosis and care for all cardiovascular conditions. We offer comprehensive heart care, including advanced treatments for heart rhythm disorders, coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, aortic aneurysms, women’s heart disease, heart failure and heart transplant.
Neurological care
Our renowned neurologists and neurosurgeons provide expert diagnosis and treatment for complex disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system.
We offer the largest neurosciences team in the region, providing world-class care through our:

Orthopedics and sports medicine
Our orthopedics and sports medicine specialists offer comprehensive care for prevention and treatment of injuries, including surgical and nonsurgical care, physical therapy, athletic training, sports performance training, sports nutrition and sport psychology.
Our team:
- Provides certified athletic trainers to more than 60 high schools and middle schools in the Kansas City area to prevent injury and care for thousands of student-athletes.
- Provides sports medicine care for the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Current, Kansas City Royals and T-Mobile Center. Also, with LMH Health, provides care for University of Kansas Athletics.
Transplant services
We offer the region’s largest, most successful solid organ transplant program. Our comprehensive, multidisciplinary team is passionate about providing advanced care before, during and after transplant.
Our transplant experts:
- Use advanced surgical techniques to provide the best outcomes for kidney, liver, pancreas and heart recipients.
- Perform high-procedure volume and lead innovation in the field, including a paired exchange program and the region’s largest living kidney transplant chain.
Trauma
The region’s most experienced nationally verified Level I Trauma Center as recognized by the American College of Surgeons, we offer comprehensive care for time-critical issues, including trauma, heart attack, stroke, injury and poison exposure.
Our team:
- Includes trauma surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, neurosurgeons, orthopedists, plastic surgeons, intensivists, radiologists and nurses.
- Is accredited in chest pain and stroke care.
