Kansas City, Kan. — U.S. News & World Report has released its 2025-26 Best Hospitals rankings, and for the 16th consecutive year, The University of Kansas Hospital was named the Best Hospital in Kansas City. It also earned the distinction of Best Hospital in Kansas for the 14th consecutive year – 2 honors no other hospital has achieved.
The University of Kansas Hospital continues to be a leader nationally, as well. It is the only hospital in the Kansas City region with any adult medical and surgical specialties ranked among the top 50 in the country, ranking in 7 specialties. Additionally, 2 other specialties were recognized as high-performing, placing them in the top 10% nationwide.
This year’s rankings are based on data from more than 4,500 U.S. hospitals, with only 152 earning national recognition in 1 or more specialties. The U.S. News methodology evaluates hospitals on a range of performance indicators, including patient outcomes and satisfaction, nursing staffing and communication, advanced technologies and program reputation.
The 2025-26 national rankings for The University of Kansas Hospital are:
- Cancer (#50). It is the 14th time this program has been recognized in the top 50 in the nation.
- Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery (#33). It is the 17th time this program has been recognized in the top 50 in the nation.
- Ear, Nose & Throat (#23). It’s the 15th time this program has been recognized in the top 50 in the nation.
- Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (#49). This is the 10th time this program has been recognized in the top 50 in the nation.
- Geriatrics (#30). This is the 15th time geriatrics has made the list as one of the top 50 in the nation.
- Neurology & Neurosurgery (#32). This specialty was listed for the 14th consecutive year as one of the top 50 in the nation.
- Pulmonology & Lung Surgery (#29). This specialty was ranked in the nation’s top 50 for the 16th year in a row.
The hospital is also listed as “high performing” in Orthopedics and Urology, which means it scored in the top 10% of all hospitals receiving a score in these specialties.
