U.S. News & World Report

As part of the region’s premier academic medical center, our goals have never changed. Give people who are facing serious health challenges the absolute best care. Get them back to their lives and to their families. We do that by always focusing on providing comprehensive, innovative care. We’re proud of our work, but never satisfied. We never stop working to deliver the best experience and results to you and your loved ones.

For this, we are once again honored to be recognized among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals, with 7 adult medical and surgical specialties ranked among the top programs in the 2021-22 report. Our hospital was also named the best hospital in Kansas City and in Kansas. We have earned these honors every year since their inception.

We are dedicated to providing exceptional care when and where our patients need it – spanning primary, specialty, urgent and emergency care, with many care types accessible by telehealth. In fact, we have proudly served patients from every Kansas county and from most Missouri counties, too.

We’re focused on enhancing the lives of those we serve – not on earning awards. But when we are so honored, we hope these distinctions inspire your confidence and trust in our care.

National excellence

U.S. News & World Report evaluated thousands of hospitals to produce its respected report of the nation's best. In 2021-22, The University of Kansas Hospital ranked among the top 50 programs in these 7 adult medical and surgical specialties:

In addition, several of our programs were recognized as high performing, ranking in the top 10% of programs evaluated. These include:

We’re proud of this recognition – but saving lives and providing answers every day – that’s the ultimate reward.

During the pandemic, patients and consumers have recognized the important role of healthcare teams and organizations more than ever before. While exceptional care of patients with COVID-19 has certainly been in the spotlight, our employees and physicians have also worked tirelessly to provide the very best care for thousands of other patients who chose The University of Kansas Hospital for routine care or treatment for complex conditions. We are excited to once again be recognized as the best hospital in our city and state and alongside the best hospitals in the nation. Patients and families can trust the team at The University of Kansas Hospital to always provide the highest quality, safest care available anywhere. – Tammy Peterman, MS, RN, FAAN

About the rankings

Since 1990, U.S. News & World Report's best hospitals ranking has served as a respected source for identifying quality healthcare providers. The rankings highlight medical centers that excel in high-risk inpatient care and complex procedures.

U.S. News evaluates measures such as patient survival, advanced technologies, patient safety and hospital reputation. The resulting best hospitals are organized into specialty areas and updated every July.
