The University of Kansas Health System collaborates with the University of Kansas in Lawrence to provide healthcare services to students and student-athletes. This partnership is a continuation of the long-standing relationship the health system has with the university – collaborating with the University of Kansas Medical Center as part of the region’s premier academic medical center.

How we help

Watkins Health Services delivers high-quality, affordable healthcare services for KU students through a partnership between The University of Kansas Health System, LMH Health and the University of Kansas. Through this partnership, quality, affordable care is available for students at Watkins Health Services, with medical oversight provided by both health systems. When students need specialized services not provided within the student clinic, The University of Kansas Health System and LMH Health provide seamless continuity of care.

The University of Kansas Health System has collaborated with Kansas Athletics and LMH Health to launch Kansas Team Health and provide the highest level of care and resources for KU student-athletes. Kansas Team Health, a first-of-its-kind model among major universities, ensures healthcare professionals provide care and treatment and minimizes potential conflicts of interest between coaches and sports medicine staff. Kansas Team Health consists of approximately 40 sports medicine experts – including physicians, athletic trainers, nutritionists, wellness coordinators and strength and conditioning coaches. Staff members report to our health system rather than to Kansas Athletics administrators. This partnership provides true medical oversight and healthcare compliance. We are proud to be the official healthcare provider of Kansas Athletics, together with LMH Health.

We believe these collaborations position KU and Kansas Athletics as leaders nationally. Especially as universities across the country consider how to provide the best training and care for student-athletes and students. – Douglas A. Girod
