No snow days for a neurosurgeon

When two Kansas City snowstorms dumped almost 24 inches of snow on the metro area in less than five days, activity in the city and surrounding area slowed to a crawl. People stayed home from work, and kids enjoyed days off from school. But neurosurgeons at The University of Kansas Health System did not want to interrupt their scheduled surgeries because patients had already mentally prepared. Delays would have only caused anxiety. Patients come to us from all over the region, often driving hours to get here. During the storms, our dedicated care teams kept surgeries on schedule – 36 procedures during the snow days. See how brain tumor surgery took place as scheduled for one patient who traveled from Liberal, Kansas.
