Highlight on Franklin County EMS

Franklin County EMS was established in 1976 to serve citizens and visitors of Franklin County, Kansas. 

The department serves 26,247 residents within a 574-square-mile area. FCEMS operates from two stations in Ottawa and another in Wellsville, and responds to approximately 2,900 calls annually. In addition, FCEMS provides medical standbys for Ottawa University football, Powers of the Past Tractor Show and the Ol’ Marais River Run Car Show. 

Franklin County EMS has achieved the following:
  • FCEMS has a full-time 24-person staff comprising EMTs, AEMTs and paramedics, and all hold NIH Stroke Scale certification. 
  • FCEMS has cooperative protocols with Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa and The University of Kansas Hospital for treating acute stroke patients.
  • FCEMS is an American Heart Association Training Center with 10 training sites instructing 500-plus classes annually.
  • Currently hosts EMR class at Wellsville Fire Department.
